Kiara Wright, 6-1 middle blocker (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake HS) -- Wright was named by ESPN as one of the Top 25 players in the nation as well as being ranked No. 13 in the nation by Prep Volleyball while playing at Clear Lake High for coach Chanda Eager. She was listed on the 2011 AVCA Under Armour All-America watch list. During her 2011 senior season, she earned District 24-5A and LoneStarVolleyball.com All-Texas first team honors. As a junior, she was named as all-state honoree by the Texas Girls Coaches Association and earned Texas Sports Writers Association and Houston Chronicle All-Greater Houston Volleyball second team honors. She was named to the Top 50 Legends of the Fall in 2010 by VYPE Magazine and earned All-VYPE Magazine Houston Area first team recognition. She was named 2010 District 24-5A Offensive Player of the Year and earned all-district first team honors. Her 2010 team won the Texas Region III state 5A area championship and reached the quarterfinals in the playoffs. Wright plays club volleyball for Absolute Volleyball Academy of Texas for coach Katy Garza. Her club team finished fifth in the National Division at the 2011 USAV Junior Nationals and was a member of the squad that won the bronze medal at the 2010 USA Volleyball High Performance Tournament of Champions. Along with her volleyball exploits, Wright competed on the track team and finished second in the high jump for the 2011 5A girls' state championship.
"Kiara has tremendous physical potential for us. It remains to be seen what position we will move her into next year, but we know she will make an impact," said Haley.
